Day 9: Rejuvenating the Mind for Increased Focus and Energy

Welcome to day 9 of your 10-day focus meditation journey.

Today we’re going to be talking about rejuvenating the mind for increased energy and focus.

We’re all familiar with fatigue. Our modern-day lifestyles can be seriously draining and can negatively affect us in more ways than we think.

Aside from anxiety, stress, lack of motivation, and increased tendency towards anger and irritability, fatigue can completely wipe out your ability to focus.

There’s a lot of people who feel tired all the time.

Most of us are multi-tasking more than ever before, have demanding schedules, and just try to flat out fit in more than we can handle.

And even if you don’t feel exhausted all the time, there are also a lot of people who tend to experience this low-grade feeling of being just a little tired all the time. Foggy. Going through the motions.

We’ve all been there, but we don’t have to stay there.

Meditation can help.

And while we tend to think of meditation of something that relaxes us and calms our energy, there are also meditations that will help increase your energy and help regain your focus.

Have you ever heard how exercise increases energy because it boosts your endorphins? Well, meditation does the same thing. In fact, one study showed that meditators and elite runners had not only significantly boosted their endorphins, but that the minds of meditators had a clear edge over those of the runners.

Meditation also naturally boosts levels of DHEA, a hormone produced by the adrenal gland that’s responsible for increasing our energy levels.

Today we’re going to focus on a meditation to increase our energy, so we can continue to learn to increase our focus.

And as we begin, go ahead and find yourself a comfortable position. You can either sit in a chair or maybe you want to sit on the floor today and try a traditional meditation position, legs crossed, spine straight, hands resting gently in your lap.

You might want to choose to lie down. Either on the floor or on your bed.

Whatever feels best for you, right now, is perfect for today’s meditation.

All you need to do is get comfortable in this moment and just start to invite a deeper breath.

Choose to close your eyes or you might want to leave them open.

We’re going to start this meditation to increase your energy by really just beginning to focus on the breath.

Just notice your breath moving naturally in and out of your body.

Each inhale

And each exhale

Just take a moment to breathe and focusing on really allowing the body and mind to relax more and more with each breath you take.

If the mind begins to wander, just know this is completely natural and bring your focus back to the breath.

If you find your mind has begun to wander, just gently bring yourself back to the present moment.

And bring your attention back to your breath.

We’re going to try a breathing exercise now that’s going to increase your energy.

We’re going to breathe in for a count of four, hold our breath for a count of four, and exhale for another count of four.

Go ahead and try it now.

Inhale.

Go ahead and try this on your own for a few breaths and see how long you can keep your mind focused on this energizing breath sequence.

If you notice your mind begins to wander, just bring your attention back and start your count over.

Go ahead and try this on your own, keeping pace with each breath as you energize and focus the mind.

Go ahead and begin to invite a deeper breath, slowly bringing yourself back to your presence right here in time and space.

It doesn’t matter where your mind drifted. Don’t judge where it’s been.

Just try to bring your attention back to the breath in the present moment. Don’t worry if you lost count or anything. Just be here right now.

Maybe wiggle your fingers and toes, or you might want to stretch your arms out over your head.

Just be really mindful when coming out of this meditation.

You can start to notice any differences you’re feeling now compared to when we first started.

This breathing technique is actually one that’s been used for centuries to help increase energy.

It’s an excellent practice to come back to when you feel like you might just need an extra boost.

And as you go throughout your day and maybe want to reach for another cup of coffee when you hit that afternoon slump, think about this meditation and maybe just take a few breaths inhaling for a count of four, holding for a count of four, and exhaling for a count of four.

It’s really easy and will give you that boost of energy we all need throughout the day.

Before you go out for the rest of the day, just give yourself a minute to really appreciate the time you’ve given yourself here and we’ll see you back again tomorrow to talk about more ways to increase your focus through the power of meditation.

While we tend to think of meditation of something that relaxes us and calms our energy, there are also meditations that will help increase your energy and help regain your focus.
